The First Bearer
313 EE
In the early 300s in the Ravinian region of Vasselern, a small hunting camp was attacked by a band of twisted wildlife. Supposedly driven to rage and aggression after being infused by a magical storm, the creatures were alarmingly fierce and powerful, and quickly overpowered the unprepared hunters.
Among the hunters was Destin DiConteur who, while young, imposed themselves between the raging beasts and the injured of their camp. As the beasts descended upon them, Destin's simple hatchet ignited with bright Core energy and filled them with vigor and tenacity. With the aid of this weapon, Destin was able to fend off the beasts and drive them back into the forests single handed.
Destin was surprised to discover the next day that the hatchet's transformation was neither a dream nor temporary, and that its remarkable powers remained. Stories quickly spread of this new form of magic, attracting the attention of scholars and arcanists from across the Shard, who came to study the relic.
Destin's simple family hatchet was discovered to have been infused with immense power, swelling with potential and an intimate link to its wielder. Its powers were granted to Destin and Destin alone, and seemed to have no upper limit.
Impressed, and perhaps a bit intimidated, the Queensguard of Vasselern invited Destin to Tidehold. A subject of great fascination and curiosity of the current Queen, Destin was given a permanent residence in the Tidehold, and served the Queen as a personal aide and advisor from then on.
As generations of similar relics were discovered, the Tidehold's reliance on these so-called Bearers would grow, and the Order of Bearers would come into being.
