Elements

Elemental magic is chief amongst the primal forces of the Shards, and is said to be one of the first forces introduced by the Infinites in the creation of Nerasa. Elemental magic can be found all throughout the Shards, present both passive and active in the hands of sorcerers, in the essence of magical creatures, and twisting about in the ebb and flow of the cosmos.

In practice, Elemental magic has the most various uses of any other magical force, given the five elemental types that the term encompasses. Elemental forces have the capability to burn enemies, heal allies, allow its wielders to fly, or even swim in the earth - almost anything can be achieved with creative and skillful application of the elements.

Like all magic, Elemental magic requires the ability to apply Core energy to the elemental flows that already exist in the cosmos, but these flows respond to energy that is being offered by beings that achieve specific emotional states, as described below.

There are five elements known in the Shards, with some more prolific than others, and each sharing unique interactions with one another. The five elements are:

Fire

Elemental Fire is considered the most passion-fueled of the elemental forces, and its most skilled practitioners are those who know how to harness willpower, particularly rage and aggression, into precise manipulation of the element. Fire is - unsurprisingly -a predominantly aggressive and offensive element, used to burn foes and scorch a path of fiery destruction, from which life can spring anew. That said, plenty of practitioners have found techniques to use Elemental Fire in more subdued and utilitarian ways.

Earth

Contrasting to fire, Elemental Earth is generally the most subdued and slow to move of the elements. Practitioners of Earth accomplish their magical feats through focus, patience, and strength of will. Earth is a very versatile element, capable of being used offensively, defensively, and to simply aid in otherwise mundane tasks - from hurling boulders, to creating barricades, to simply sculpting and shaping the earth in useful ways.

Air

Mercurial and aloof, Elemental Air is exceptionally difficult to master, but can be immensely powerful to those that do. Practitioners of Air find themselves the most successful channeling a mindfulness and emotional freedom that is difficult to master, but enables them to wield a variety of abilities at the same time offensive, defensive, and ultimately all around life-enhancing. A blade of wind, a whirlwind barrier, or a gust of wind so powerful it grants them and their allies the ability to glide.

Water

Amenable and flexible, Elemental Water is an elemental force that requires a great deal of peace of mind, and adaptation. Given the adaptive nature of water, those who seek to channel it are required to capitulate to the will of the element, and then direct it how they need, in manners that are both offensive, defensive, and even rejuvenating. Elemental Water can be used to wash away enemies, create barriers, and even soothe and heal wounds.

Vast

The element most obscure and difficult to understand for most, Elemental Vast is most often described as stoic and everlasting. The force that binds the other elements together, Vast is as challenging to manipulate as it is to understand but those who master its craft have the ability to bond objects together, force them apart, and otherwise amplify and negate the forces that bind all things in powerful, yet mysterious ways.
