Otherbeings

Beguilers

Vaguely humanoid in shape and size, Beguilers appear almost human - though are capable of shapeshifting to a moderate degree. Characterized by possessing the most ideal features possible, Beguilers are the beauties of the Otherworld. Possessive, deceptive, and desperate for attention and love, Beguilers seek out the Material World in hopes of receiving this attention, and even fostering idolatry, by adapting to the desires of those around them.

Due to their nature, Beguilers are rarely discovered - and it is believed that many Beguilers live amongst Accord citizens without their knowledge. Besides the occasional jealous fit, Beguilers are not particularly dangerous due to a general lack of desire for power - only approval - and are often conjured by lonely, novice Othermages.

Lasher

Unintelligent masses of hungry tentacles, Lashers dwell in dark, wet corners of the Otherworld. Typically rooting in place, Lashers do have the capability to unroot, and slowly scuttle into more opportune locations - where they wait for prey to approach, utilising stinging paralytic venom to ensnare prey and draw it into their fanged maw. Lashers exist only to feed, and can be easily manipulated by mortal conjurers, and both Mazgani and Skrabb into serving as traps or watchdogs (and even sometimes garbage disposals).

Otherhulks

Gargantuan monsters, Otherhulk resemble giants of flesh, muscle, and jagged horns. Moving about on all fours, and standing easily two meters tall, Otherhulks occupy hills and caves in the Otherworld, venturing out to feed upon Skrabb livestock and even Skrabbs themselves. Low intelligence, and motivated only by their hunger, Otherhulks can be defensive, but easily avoided. Occasionally, Mazgani will enthrall or tame Otherhulks, and use them as beasts of war in their territorial disputes.

Othermorphs

Notoriously devious, aggressive and dangerous creatures - Othermorphs are shapeshifters that, while not capable of taking any complex forms, utilize their abilities to reign as the premier ambush predators of the Other. Othermorphs take forms of disarming objects - trees, rocks, and even Skrabb objects, and await their prey, at which point they adopt a horrifying shape - teeth, tentacles, and gaping mouths - intended to shock their prey and then devour them. While mostly motivated by hunger, Othermorphs take pleasure in consuming intelligent prey, and will go out of their way to hunt Skrabb - or Nerasan mortals. They are somewhat fearful of Mazgani, and will tend to focus on Skrabb settlements that do not possess Mazgani supervision.

Nerasan conjurers will sometimes utilise Othermorphs as traps for would-be robbers.

Othershard

Shards are essentially entities of raw Othermagic; small crystalline objects, about 3-5 inches long, that hum and glow with energy. Seemingly semi-intelligent, or at least aware, Shards are attracted to sources of magic in all forms, and can be found in particularly powerful swells of magical energy, drifting about in patterns through the air, siphoning energy from these swells like swarms of insects. They will react to the presence of others, and avoid contact. If threatened, they have limited ability to expel blasts of Othermagic, which can be particularly harmful.

Without exposure to magic, Shards will eventually lose charge and become inert - what some believe is a hibernating state. Hibernating shards will awaken when they detect powerful magic, and for this reason many Mages have taken to the trend of carrying Othershards with them, to detect swells of magic.

Retch

Starting on the low end at a meter tall, Retches are bone-thin, spindly looking creatures with a sickly green flesh, often riddled with small horns and pockmarks - seemingly at random. They sport a volume of needle-like teeth, and small beady eyes. Like some Nerasan creatures, Retches will continue to grow until their death - resulting in some particularly large specimen - were it not for the fact that they are often slain very early in their lifespan. Retches are less common, but are the most typical ‘monster’ identified with the Otherworld. Low intelligence, and highly aggressive, Retches are favored guards by Conjurers - and slain on sight by all else.

Shrieker

Often described as a mouth with wings, Shriekers match the description well. Sporting a large, tooth-filled maw, and wide leathery wings, the blind Shriekers often fill the darker regions of the Otherworld much like bats may occupy a cave in the Material World. Named for the shrill, high pitched shrieks they emit when distressed, Shriekers are generally avoided. Due to being only about a foot in wingspan, Shriekers are not terribly dangerous, and will shy away from larger creatures - unless in a large group. Because of their similarities, Shriekers who have found their way into the Material World will often roost with bats.

Skrabb are known to domesticate Shriekers as a sort of early warning system, alerting them to the presence of Othermorphs and Retches who may seek to feed upon their villages.

Squirts

Squirts are small Others, around 35cm tall, typified by mottled blue-white skin, a chubby figure and a single, large black eye - squirts are curious, devious, low intelligence creatures often drawn to the Material World by pure wanderlust. The most commonly encountered Other, Squirts very regularly accompany Otherworld portals and rifts, and are as common about Othermages as rats on a wharf. Squirts reproduce by use of colonies of Squirtspores, which make them very hard to keep out of places you don’t want them - often literally dragged back to the Material World on the bottom of one’s shoe.

Capable of simple speech, and omnivorous - most are tolerant of Squirts, despite their origin and demeanor. Some even keep them as pets or servants. Squirts are commonly found in Skrabb societies in the Otherworld, surviving as scavengers or gophers - the Skrabbs ever eager to unload more of their work onto the small creatures.
