It is commonly agreed that all life in the Shards of Nerasa owes its existence to the machinations and ministrations of Estilas, the Infinite of Growth, who seeded the primordial world with fauna and flora aplenty. Evidence of her Growth Engines, which fueled this spread of life across the burgeoning world, has been found in several Caretaker ruins, and records recovered from those same ruins corroborate their purpose.

That said, Estilas' vision of life on Nerasa was one of highly controlled, highly ordered life that followed a model she laid forward. With the events of the Shattering, that meticulous ordering was cast aside in favor of nature's most primeval motive; survival.

Some credit the forces of adaptation and evolution to Szekaris, the Fallen Infinite. While resulting in the schism that destroyed the Nerasa that was, Szekaris' introduction of change and adaptation to Estilas' formula is believed to be what has allowed life to continue to flourish in a broken world.

Either way, life carried on in the Shards. Either fed by the remains of Estilas' Growth Engines or having clawed their way to survival by their own merits, the Shards are rife with creatures and species strong and motivated - and shards innumerable are lush and flourishing with flora and fauna of all shapes and sizes.
