Skrabb

The common folk of the Other, and the crooked backbone of the Oraszan Dominance, the Skrabb are a species of plentiful, skilled, and criminally work-adverse people who dwell in the fiefdoms of the Mazgani lords.

While typically confined to the Other, Orasza, the Skrabb are - in no small part due to their desire to seek an easier path and jump at opportunity - not exceptionally uncommon in the disparate colonies and cities of the Shards, and in particular in ports, bars, and any place one might consider less than virtuous.

Appearance

The Skrabb are humanoid in shape of typically stooped postures, and vaguely asymmetrical features. While generally five to six feet tall and scrawny, the Skrabb come in a variety of shapes and sizes, with skin tones that run the gamut from soft pinks to warm browns, to the less humanoid metallics, ashen grays, and even the extreme of pale whites and deep blacks. All Skrabb have long pointed ears that typically sweep back over their heads, and deep, jet black eyes - often ringed with comparatively dark eye sockets.

All the more unique, some Skrabb have grown small horns, while others possess ratlike tails. Others still are known to have tiny wings. It is not clear what causes these mutations, but they seem to be tied to the Mazgani lords that the Skrabb are subservient to, though it is believed that the Skrabb’s own collective imagination have some effect on their growth and development.

Personalities

As a whole, Skrabb are regarded as greedy, materialistic opportunists who are ever keen to divert responsibility wherever they can, in stark contrast to the fact that they are highly resilient, skilled, and capable. To facilitate this, the Skrabb are deceptively clever and manipulative, and have long utilized these skills to avoid work, and escape responsibility.

On an individual basis, Skrabb develop fleeting passions and interests, bouncing from hobby to trade until boredom takes them, and often well before developing any sense of mastery. Coincidentally, this tends to have Skrabb often serving as an extra hand with adventuring groups, as they are always exposed to new things - and can often blend into the background without having to do much work.

Culture

Skrabb culture is very much the child of necessity. As a people, they are beholden to their Mazgani rulers, who lay down upon them demands of tithe and tribute, and employ them to work all the trades necessary to feed the Mazgani’s lavish lifestyles. As a product of this relationship, the Skrabb have developed and maintained a complex ploy regarding the amount of effort required to maintain that relationship.

This community deception runs so deeply that it, more than anything else, is the strongest unifying force of their people. If any one Skrabb reveals the truth of their capabilities, they know the Mazgani would upset their delicately maintained status quo - and one that allows the Skrabb their lax and leisure.

Because of this shared secret, the Skrabb are remarkably good to one another, often taking in stride the whims of their neighbors - even when those whims can be harmful to one another. All Skrabb would take an opportunity if it was presented to them, so they rarely take it personally when one takes one that puts them in a bad spot.

Skrabb Names

Skrabb names are simple, short, and not always particularly unique - or permanent. Skrabb do not tend to possess any form of surname or title, though on rare occasions they are given title by their Mazgani lords.

Some example Skrabb names include: Aggly, Bez, Bagsly, Dab, Droggo, Frod, Grezzly, Gorp, Jak, Kaz, Kezzly, Meg, Morga, Ned, Podd, Speggly, Tord
