Vecca
Aloof and enigmatic, the Vecca spend much of the shared history of the Accord hiding at its fringes - only stepping within borders in small groups, and only when their duties as wardens of the wilds of the shards. Their quiet wardenship earned them stories as myths, legends, and boogeymen.
It was not until very recently that the Vecca stepped into the light and revealed themselves and their mission; to preserve the Cycle of Growth. A task they believe was handed down by Estilas, the Infinite of Growth, this stewardship of life is a duty they take very seriously, and one that takes them to the furthest reaches of the Span.
After an agreement was made between the Vecca Conclave and the Accord, the Vecca now have leave to travel within Accord territory, so long as they do not let their duties drive them to the harm of its people.
Appearance
All Vecca begin their life as rooted plants, sown into the vital soil of their home shard - which they call the Blooming Grove - and no Vecca has ever been conceived beyond it. In this state, they have only limited independence, as they exist as one with their brethren.
However, when their duties or the wilds call to them, a Vecca will grow a body and uproot it. Modeled on the Caretakers who they believe helped in creating them, their forms are generally humanoid in shape, but consisting of roots, vines, and leaf-like, waxy skin that serve as analogs to skin and hair.
Beyond these stipulations, a Vecca is free to design the body they wish. Coloration, composition, size, shape and even presenting sex are all up to their desires - and can even be changed as they wish. In times past, the Vecca used this ability to blend in with other cultures. Now, it is a form of self expression.
Personalities
When sown into the Grove, Vecca exist in a state of harmony and complacence, as they live as one with their brethren. But they also live in stagnation. Life in the Grove is comfortable, but one cannot grow while comfortable. For this reason, many Vecca feel drawn to the wilds, and will uproot themselves to satisfy their wanderlust.
Because of this drive to wander, explore, and grow, the Vecca can seem aloof and flighty, and also often self-assured to the point of arrogance or naivete. However, as a people focused on the tenets of growth and life, they are generally kind, courageous, and view each failure as a challenge to overcome.
Culture
No people define monoculture as strongly as the Vecca, who spend their early years homogenized with their brethren in the most literal of senses.
Believing they were created by Estilas and her Caretakers as chosen servants, the Vecca collectively believe in a divine duty of stewardship over a process they call the Cycle of Growth, or sometimes just the Cycle. Birth, Growth, Decay and Death are the tenets of this Cycle, and are a process of nature that the Vecca believe they are responsible for upholding.
While wardens of life and growth are appealing, the Vecca enforce concepts of death and decay just as readily. A plague is good for adaptation, and life must perish to fertilize that which comes next.
All Vecca share these beliefs when their lives begin, instilled in them through both inherited memory, but also the collective will of their brethren. That said, nothing grows more rapidly than a mind, and any Vecca is free to learn, change, and form new and different opinions.
Vecca Names
Vecca names are chosen when they uproot from the Grove, and set out into the world. Based on the language passed down to them from Estilas and her Caretakers, they use a series of familiar Caretaker syllables to form unique creations, though they may resemble friends or historical figures.
