Masreyan

Masreyan is a ordered yet lithe language that makes heavy usage of gestural components, incorporating movements of the head, arms, and core in ways that add emphasis and emotional context to the spoken word.

Developed in a subaquatic environment, Masreyan is also somewhat reliant on non-verbal trills and clicks that are replaced with deliberate silences and motions when above water, making the language markedly different when spoken above or below the seas.

Masreyan is primarily spoken by the Sidsel of Masreya, and trade partners in the western Accord. Because of its challenges when spoken above water, it is an uncommon language outside of Masreyan settlements.

Masreyan Script

Like many written scripts in the Shards, the Sidsel’s native language is based on the Caretaker glyphs found in the ruins of Karimos’ various facilities found across the subaquatic shard’s Halia Plains.

Like other Caretaker-based languages, Masreyan evolved over time to support the needs of the Sidsel, and adopted a number of artistic and creative adaptations as Sidsel culture grew and solidified.

The language is written phonetically, like Caretaker script, and has an alphabet consisting of 26 characters which represent consonants and vowels, used to form lingual sounds and words. It is written horizontally, from left to right, with vertical line returns. Distinct from many other Caretaker-based languages, Masreyan words have a solid connecting horizontal line from character to character.
